Culture is about how we live out the message of Christ and what we are known for, both as individuals and the LOVEIS community. We believe in a Kingdom culture based on the Holy Bible. This is how we want to be known.
-
LOVE // We have a culture of LOVE. We believe love was defined by Christ dying on the cross for us over 2000 years ago. Our response to that love is to lay down our lives for one another.Read - 1 John 3:16, Deuteronomy 6:5, Proverbs 10:12, Romans 12:10, Romans 13:10, 1 Corinthians 13:4, 1 Corinthians 16:14, 1 Peter 4:8, 1 John 3:18, 1 John 4:8, 1 John 4:10
-
DISCIPLESHIP // We have a culture of DISCIPLESHIP. We believe this is how the great commission of Christ will be fulfilled. What does discipleship look like? A lifestyle that is sold out for Jesus - praying together, studying the word, submitting to leadership, loving one another, being an example in everyday life, gathering in connect groups and gathering in large meetings to hear the word preached and to worship together.Read - Matthew 9:37, Matthew 16:24, Matthew 28:19, John 13:35, Acts 14:22, Acts 13:52
-
PASSION // We believe in a culture of PASSION for Jesus. A zeal that is all about Jesus and people. We do whatever it takes for people to know about His love. We go the extra mile in serving, we are passionate in our worship, and passionate for the Word. We are not lacking in passion, because our passion is based in a knowledge that comes from the Word of God. Our passion is for Jesus, not for the things of this world.Read - Romans 12:11, Romans 10:2 & Galatians 5:24
-
GENEROSITY // We believe that, having been 'born again', we have been made rich in every way. Our natural response to this is to be GENEROUS in every way. We are generous with our money, our time, our love, and anything else that we can control. We give to the church for the preaching of the gospel, for meeting people's needs, and for supporting the vision of C3 Church. We have a generous spirit with family, friends, and strangers. We are generous in supporting the pursuit of justice, because Christ himself saved us from judgment. We believe that we should bring our 'first fruits' to the house of God, by tithing into the church.Read - 2 Corinthians 9:11, Proverbs 11:25, 2 Corinthians 8:7, Philippians 4:15, 2 Corinthians 9:5, 2 Corinthians 9:6, 1 Timothy 6:18
-
ACCOUNTABILITY & AUTHENTICITY // We have a culture of truthfulness and honesty. Not an honesty that is morbid or depressing but a truthfulness that leads to Christ and His life. We believe in confessing our sins to one another so that we do not live in the darkness, but the light. We desire to be accountable in all areas of our life through trusting relationships.Read - Proverbs 12:22, Ephesians 4:25
-
FAITH // We live by FAITH. First and foremost, FAITH IN CHRIST, for faith comes from God and is given to us because He has shown us that He is faithful and believes in us. We now live by faith and not by sight. When others doubt we believe because of the faithfulness of Christ. Faith doesn’t need proof. Faith is not cynical. Faith believes in the purpose of God and believes that anything is possible. We are faithful to the call of Christ.
We also show FAITH IN PEOPLE, just as Christ believed in us. We are unashamed of the Gospel, and so we believe in people even when other's don’t. This is living by faith, and we believe this is the heart of Christ, which He revealed when He walked the earth. His heart was for people, so our hearts are for people. We believe that because Christ was so faithful to us in dying on the cross, to forgive us and take the punishment for our sins, we must be faithful to God and faithful in our relationships and faithful to serving in our local church.Read - Deuteronomy 32:4, Lamentations 3:23, Romans 1:12, Romans 3:3, Romans 5:2, 1 Corinthians 13:13, 1 Corinthians 16:13, 2 Corinthians 5:7, 2 Corinthians 13:5, Galatians 2:20, Galatians 5:22, Ephesians 2:8, Colossians 1:4, 1 Timothy 4:12, 1 Peter 4:10, 3 John 1:3 & Hebrews 3:6 -
JOY // We know that the JOY of the Lord is our Strength! We love the richness of life and we love having fun. We believe following Jesus is not about who can be the most serious or religious. It is a lifestyle of enjoying all that God has created, with thankful hearts. We radiate joy, and this reveals and reflects the goodness of God to the city around us. We believe that, through Christ and the power of His spirit, we can be joyful in every moment, even in the middle of trials or suffering. Our greatest joy is seeing people living for Jesus.Read - 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Hebrews 12:2, James 1:2, 1 Peter 1:8, 1 Corinthians 10:31
-
WORSHIP // Our whole lives are for Christ. Our call is to WORSHIP Jesus Christ in song but, more than a song, we believe everything we are should be a song of worship to Christ. Therefore we give our time, resources, gifts, talents, focus, emotions, thoughts and heart to the glory of God. All that we are is for Him. We do not have idols in our lives, which can get in the way of glorifying God. Worshipping God is also intrinsically connected to how we treat and love others.Read - Romans 1:25, Hebrews 12:28, Luke 4:8, John 4:23
-
ENCOURAGEMENT // We seek to ENCOURAGE people. We believe in speaking words of love and truth to one another to point each other to Christ. We desire to lift people up, not put people down. We seek to encourage the God-given gifts that are within each member of our community so that that person may encourage others. We want to place courage in people to be leaders and influencers for Christ, and we believe courage comes from the finished work of the Cross.Read - Romans 12:8, Romans 1:11-13, Philippians 2:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:11
-
POWER // We believe that it is the POWER of God that changes lives and cities, not anything that man alone can achieve. The power of God is the Gospel, the 'good news'. It is this power that saves us, sanctifies us and ultimately will transform us into people who fully glorify Christ in the age to come. We believe in empowering a new generation of leaders to preach the gospel and live out the purpose and plan of the Kingdom that is on and in their lives. We believe empowering comes from the Holy Spirit by the grace of Jesus Christ, and that God gives his Holy Spirit to every person who chooses to believe. As a result, we carry the power of God, and God can use the people and leaders in our life to help empower us by His Spirit. We desire that every believer and leader would be empowered to love others, lead others, serve others and empower others.
We also believe that the power of God gives us the gifts of his Spirit so that we can minister, like Jesus did, with signs and wonders. We believe that by the power of God every spirit filled believer is able to pray for the sick and see them healed and operate in the other gifts such as prophecy and speaking in tongues. By being filled with the Spirit of Christ, Christ’s character is formed in each of us in an ever-increasing measure.Read - Acts 1:8, Acts 6:8, Colossians 1:29, 2 Corinthians 4:7, 2 Corinthians 12:9, 1 Corinthians 12, Galatians 5:22, Mark 16:17- 18 -
HONOUR // We seek to HONOUR GOD. From this heart we believe in honouring Godly leadership (above us), those around us (peers), those we lead and influence, and those that are strangers or new to our world. Honouring people is one way of showing that we honour God. We do not seek to be honoured, but rather we seek to show honour.Read - Luke 14, Romans 12:10, 1 Corinthians 12:26, Ephesians 6:2, 1 Timothy 5:17
-
SERVANTHOOD // We have a culture of SERVING & VOLUNTEERING. Our desire is not to rule over each other but rather to serve each other and our communities, motivated by the love of Christ, who was the ultimate servant. We seek to be servant leaders. We serve our connect groups, we serve at events and large meetings, and we serve those who are less fortunate than us both locally and internationally. We believe the church is built through faithful volunteers who desire to give their time and resources to see the Gospel preached and lives changed. And our servant hearts influence everything that we do – including in our schools, universities and workplaces. We do this by God’s power and grace living in us.Read - Galatians 5:13, 1 Peter 4:10, 2 Corinthians 13:4, Romans 12:7, Ephesians 6:7, 1 Peter 5:2, Revelation 1:6
-
HUMILITY // We believe in a culture of humility. Christ is our ultimate example in this way. He came from Heaven and became a man, a servant, and died the death of a criminal. This example now becomes ours as we are changed by the Gospel. We desire to see others better than ourselves, to be selfless, to speak well of everyone, and take the position of a servant. We are not about title or receiving glory, for we know the only one that truly deserves all the glory is God. We don’t believe in false humility but a life of boldness, courage and confidence that comes from Christ.Read - Proverbs 11:2, Philippians 2:1-3, Colossians 2:18, 1 Peter 5:5, Titus 3:1-3, Colossians 3:12, Ephesians 4:2, James 4:10, James 4:6
-
RELATIONSHIP & INCLUSION // We believe the Gospel is INCLUSIVE – it is for everyone. We reflect this in our RELATIONSHIPS and our CONNECT GROUPS. We do not like cliques, we believe everyone is welcome and that it is the responsibility of the leaders and members of the LOVE IS COMMUNITY to be include new and different people into our worlds and relationships. Our culture is relevant but not exclusive. We desire a culture that is not judgmental or critical but rather we seek to embrace people for who they are. As people are accepted this gives opportunity for God’s grace to be freely received rather than religion to be forced on peoples minds and hearts. We include and we value all people, not just those we instantly connect with!Read - Ephesians 1:13, Luke 11:4, Romans 12:18, Romans 10:13, 1 Corinthians 9:19, Colossians 4:6
-
GRACE // We have and believe in a culture of GRACE in our church community. We are saved by grace through Faith and not through works. Grace is unmerited favour. Just as Christ has shown us ultimate grace and favour by giving us His whole life so that we could be forgiven from our sins and live in beautiful relationship with Him, we desire to extend grace to all people in this city. We desire not to condemn but to forgive others as Christ forgave us. Our job is not to be moral police. Instead, our job is to carry the presence of God so that the Holy Spirit does the convicting of sin. We then bring the answer to that sin through the message of Christ, which is one of FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE, through the cross of Jesus Christ and His resurrection.Read - Acts 20:32, Romans 3:24, 1 Corinthians 15:10, 2 Corinthians 4:15, 2 Corinthians 8:7, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Ephesians 2:8, Ephesians 3:7, Colossians 4:6, 2 Timothy 2:1
-
HOPE // We have a culture of HOPE. Hope comes from God who is the God of all hope. Hope is the expectation of good happening. True hope lives in us because Christ has made a way for us to live forever with Him. Therefore, towards each other we bring hope not despair and to those outside the church we bring hope. The Gospel which we have been saved by is a message of hope. We believe that, even though suffering, hard situations and trials will occur, there is hope because Christ is using these things to change us into the image of Christ, and developing a greater glory within us that far outweighs the circumstance. Therefore in the good and the bad our words, attitudes and actions reflect a heart that is filled with hope that comes from God, and that hope overflows into other people.Read - Psalm 31:24, Psalm 33:20, 1 Timothy 6:17, Titus 2:13, Hebrews 6:19, 2 Corinthians 3:12, Ephesians 1:18, 2 Corinthians 4:17
We are not...
